A group of leading architects, urban designers and sustainability experts have been appointed to provide independent advice on the design of future development in Royal Greenwich.
The Greenwich Design Review Panel will help to shape development by providing advice and feedback on new buildings, landscapes and public spaces in the early stages of design.
The panel will review proposals for significant schemes including sites with groups of buildings, public realm schemes, masterplans and major transport projects to ensure they deliver inclusive, sustainable and high quality design.

You have one more week to share your views on proposed changes to the borough’s Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) charges.
CIL helps to pay for important infrastructure and community facilities across Royal Greenwich from roads and transport to schools and doctors’ surgeries.
CIL was vital in funding the new Elizabeth line station in Woolwich. It’s also helped to support a wealth of small projects across the entire borough: upgrading community centres, sports facilities and parks, playground equipment and so much more.
Give your feedback by 25 September: royalgreenwich.gov.uk/cil-consultation
You have until 5pm on Tuesday 5 September to have your say in our Local Plan consultation.
We’re asking residents, businesses and community groups to help shape the future of development in Royal Greenwich.
The Local Plan is the Council’s main planning document, which is used to manage development such as new homes and business space for people to work and shop. It includes policies to ensure that any development in the borough is supported by essential infrastructure such as schools and doctors surgeries, and helps the Council to tackle climate change and improve air quality.
In the first phase of consultation, the Council is asking people about what’s important to them in a number of key areas, such as housing, transport, the local economy and climate change. The feedback will be used to help produce a first draft of the new plan for further consultation next summer.

We’re consulting on the development of a new planning guide for Royal Greenwich.
The borough’s new Urban Design Guide Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) provides detailed guidance on the design of buildings, streets and spaces, which is used to help decide planning applications. The guide will:
• encourage the design of accessible, sustainable buildings and places, which promote physical and mental health
• help to deliver net zero carbon standards for all major developments and protect biodiversity
• promote a ‘retrofit first’ approach to design, reusing existing buildings and structures wherever possible
• help residents in designing house extensions and alterations
Key proposals from the draft SPD are summarised on royalgreenwichplanning.commonplace.is or you can download a copy of the draft SPD. Once you’ve read more, you can share your views through our questionnaire. You can also find a copy of the draft SPD, paper copies of the questionnaires and more information on display at the Eltham Centre, Greenwich Centre, Thamesmere and Woolwich Centre libraries.
The consultation is open until 5pm on Tuesday 11 April 2023.
We’re asking local people, designers and developers to share their views on a new planning guide which will help shape future development in the borough.
The borough’s new Urban Design Guide Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) provides detailed guidance on the design of buildings, streets and spaces, which is used to help decide planning applications. It provides advice on the design of household extensions, retail and office developments, and green spaces, alongside key issues such as sustainability, parking, lighting and managing flood risk.
Cllr Aidan Smith, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: “This planning guidance is vital to encouraging sustainable, well designed and inclusive development in our borough, and also protecting our unique natural and historic environment.
“We want to hear from a wide range of people to ensure the SPD reflects your priorities for how development in our borough looks and feels. It’s an important part of the vision in Our Greenwich, to make sure our communities feel heard.”
